There is currently a shortage of free containers on the railways in China, as a result of which the market is forced to use an alternative delivery method – truck transport. The container shortage is caused by a mismatch in import and export volumes between countries. In addition, restrictions on trade turnover arise due to difficulties in making payments between the Russian Federation and the PRC, as well as a reduction in positions for transportation, as a result of which certain goods cannot be transported across the border at all.
In January-June 2024, trade turnover between Russia and China increased year-on-year by 1.8% to $116.9 billion, according to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China.
