What kind of bread do Aldi customers buy?

Bakery rolls cost three times more than those from discount stores. However, quality has its price, because they taste better from bakers. But everyday shopping at a bakery is a drain on the wallet for most average consumers, says consumer platform wmn.de.

Master bakers mainly criticize rolls from the Lidl discount store. A baker's apprentice would not pass the exam with bread made this way. The baking time is too short, and the dough is also pre-baked – reports echo24.de.

Unlike Lidl, the discount store Aldi is doing better and has won the prize. Rewe is in the middle of the pack. Lidl responds to the criticism by explaining that the rolls are baked from frozen dough or from "gently baked semi-finished products". The chain bakes such fresh bread several times a day.

It is impossible to ignore the differences in taste between baked goods from supermarkets, discount stores and bakeries. However, much cheaper baked goods do not have to be bad. According to echo24.de, the master bakers also tested other baked goods. Lidl convinced them with its bread and pretzels. They win because they are crunchy, as well as in terms of appearance and taste. The discount store overtook other chains and is the clear winner of the ranking in this category.
