As representatives of the corporation assure, the name change should not affect the situation of both suppliers – farmers and pork buyers. The company’s management remains unchanged as well. Clemens Tönnies remains managing director, while Carl Bürger remains group director.
Not just meat processing
According to group officials, the reason for the name change is the company’s strategic direction. The new name Premium Food Group is intended to make it clear that the group is not just a slaughtering and meat company, but also an increasingly diversified food producer. In addition to meat and sausage products, the group of companies also produces vegetarian products, prepared foods, animal feed, sauces, soups, by-products such as proteins, fats and flour, and supplies raw materials to the pharmaceutical and biofuel industries, operates cold storage facilities and a logistics company.
Toonies will take over the Vion plant?
At the same time, the group’s authorities have assured that the name change does not mean turning away from meat production. It will remain an elementary goal of the company’s operations. In this context, management is awaiting a decision by the German antitrust authority authorizing the acquisition of Vion’s plants in Buchloe, Waldkraiburg, Crailsheim, Hilden and Eching-Weixerau. The planned merger was notified on September 25.
