Nearly four percent less producers of milk
Statisticians reported a decrease in the number of farms tending cows milk by 3.9 perc, that is up to 910, with numbering 22 455 farms. The monthly discussion on the topic of the year-long ban on trapping in the planned law on the protection of animals has probably accelerated this decline. The number of milk cows has declined by 20 769 pc, meaning by 2 proc. Dairy cows constituted the largest share of the cattle head in 2024 year – 37.9 proc, that is over 1 million pc.
The decline was also recorded in the count of calves and young cattle under the first year of life. Here they declined by 2.2 proc. to 785 642 animals. Particularly drastically declined the number of cattle of the male at an age of under two years. In comparison with the previous year statisticians counted only 174 632 animals, which means a decrease of 7.5 percent. Bavarian breeders of cattle raise on average about 72 pc of cattle on their farm, which does change in comparison with 2023 . According to actual statistics farmers producing milk do average 46 years.
Structural changes in agriculture have been occurring for long
Minister agriculture of Bavaria Michale Kaniber (CSU) assigns strong structural changes in breeding of animals before all this, which in her view is a wrong policy of agriculture Cem Özdemir. A look at long-term statistics shows, that structural changes have been taking place for years. In the last decades every quarter of breeding cattle (24.5 percent) have disappeared. Although in 2015 year. there were over 50 000 enterprises involving breeding cattle, in 2024 the number of this was about 38 100. However the cattle count declined only by 15.4 proc. to 2.7 million pc.
In Bavaria the dominant breed with double purpose
More than three four (75.5 proc.) of all cattle bred in Bavaria belong to the simal breed with double use (2.1 million pieces). They are followed by Brown Swiss with a population of 170 642 animals. In Bavaria the dominant breed with double population, counting nearly 2.4 million cattle. 155 257 stocks of cattle belong to
the milk Holstein-Black and White breed. Breeds designed for dairy purposes are in Bavaria significantly less numerously represented than
breeds with double purposes – total 188 927 stocks of cattle. Another 150 302 stocks of
cattle
are meat breeds.
