Bankruptcy of shoe company. 150 people without work, member intervenes

Danish owner announced financial problems in December 2024 year, and employees after they were ordered not to go to work. Now there is a application in court for bankruptcy of the company, but the procedure may be overdue, and the former employees are still waiting for payment and certificates of work. MEP Janusz Cieszynski intervenes.

Factory of Footwear Sanita Footwear in Pile officially is in decline. A court has already submitted a application for declaration of bankruptcy, and over 150 employees have been suddenly unemployed and without wages for December and necessary documents.

The sudden closing of the factory and chaos for employees

Problems Sanita Footwear started at the end of 2024 year, when the Danish owner of the company informed about financial problems of the mother company. Instead of dismissals, employees received only information, that they were no longer to work.

23 December 2024 year the factory closed its operations, leaving employees in a difficult situation -not only without pay, but also without certificates of work. T

Now in the Regional Court of Poznan-Stare City has appeared the formal application for bankruptcy of the company, submitted 20 January 2025 year. However the procedure this may take time. 

Million losses and sale of assets

Sanita Footwear has struggled with financial problems for years. In 2023 year the company recorded a net loss of over 4 million , a in purpose of reducing costs it closed its firm store and gradually fired employees.

Tried also to lower the costs of work, hiring refugees from Ukraine, mostly women, to reduce pressure wages. The average wage in the company was 4 606 zl gross, and still in 2023 year employed 168 people.

In June 2024 year the board decided to sell the factory in Pile, in this buildings and right of use of the plot. The sale was to help save the company, however finally did not prevent its decline.

Member intervenes, employees wait

Lack of wages and documents is a huge problem for former employees. The matter was interested by MEP Janusz Cieszynski, who turned to the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy with interference.

  • Does government plan intervention, to help workers in the difficult financial situation?
  • What measures of support will be available to people without wages and certificates ?of work?
  • Can the bankruptcy procedure be accelerated, to pay due wages?
  •  What actions government will take,toprotectemployeesfromsimilarsituationsinthefuture?
