The Auchan Retail Russia company announced the start of cooperation with Polotnyano-zavodskaya paper manufactory, within the framework of which a closed-cycle production of paper packaging bags will be launched. At the first stage, Auchan plans to send the company several tons of its own paper waste for processing to produce the first batch of packaging. It is expected that the packages will go on sale in the Auchan retail chain this fall.

Auchan Retail Russia shares the principles of sustainable business development and consistently implements them. One of the key areas of Auchan’s ESG agenda is reducing waste volumes, increasing the share of reusable, recyclable, compostable raw materials in packaging, and reducing the amount of plastic used in the packaging of private label goods.
As part of its obligations, the Auchan Retail Russia company entered into an agreement for the production of a closed cycle of paper packaging bags with the Polotnyano-zavodskaya paper manufactory, one of the oldest enterprises in the domestic pulp and paper industry in the Kaluga region with a production capacity of about 60 million paper bags per year.
At the first stage of cooperation, Auchan Retail Russia will send several tons of its own paper waste to PZBM for the production of a test batch. It is expected that the first batch of bags produced from this raw material will go on sale in Auchan hypermarkets this fall.
Thanks to cooperation with PZBM, Auchan Retail Russia will ensure the production of paper bags from recycled materials in three sizes: 45*35*15, 35*26*15, 25*22*12, and will also be able to independently regulate their cost. If the test project is successful, the company will consider launching a similar project to produce bags from recycled polyethylene. The new bags will be another addition to the eco-friendly assortment already presented in Auchan stores: biodegradable bags made from corn starch, reusable bags, craft bags, etc.
