As reported by the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate, the 43rd outbreak of ASF in pigs this year was confirmed in the Łasin commune in Grudziądz county, in the north-eastern part of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian province. This is the first outbreak in pig herds to appear in this part of the province. Earlier, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian province, ASF was confirmed in two herds in Chełmno county.
ASF in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship
The location of the outbreak is not entirely accidental: the place where the disease was detected is close to the border of the Iława district (Warmia-Masuria province), where in early June the plague was confirmed in one herd of pigs.
The area is not free from wild boar plague either. Recently, two ASF outbreaks were confirmed in the neighboring communes of Gardeja and Sadlinki. The place where the disease was detected was about 10 km away from the farm where the plague occurred.
In the last outbreak, 44 pigs were kept. The farm implemented procedures related to the elimination of the disease, including killing and disposal of pigs, cleaning and disinfecting the facility, and including the surrounding towns in the infected and endangered area.

ASF in 2024
As mentioned above, this is the third outbreak of ASF in pigs in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship this year (and in general). Until recently, it was one of the few "white spots" on the map of Poland, but the situation has changed radically in recent months.
In total, 43 ASF outbreaks in pigs have been confirmed so far in 2024. More than half of them were concentrated in Wielkopolska, the disease also occurred in the Lublin, Masovian, Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian and West Pomeranian voivodeships. As a result of the elimination of the outbreaks, more than 16 thousand pigs were slaughtered.
