The Agrarheute portal reported on Tuesday the occurrence of ASF in Hesse. The disease appeared in a small herd of pigs – it consisted of only nine animals. All pigs in the infected herd were immediately killed, and disinfection and disposal activities were implemented at the site of the outbreak. A protective area with a radius of 3 km and a monitored zone with a radius of 10 km have been designated around the farm.
In Hesse, this was the first outbreak confirmed in a herd of pigs, but several outbreaks in the wild boar population had previously occurred there.
In turn, in Rhineland-Palatinate we had the first outbreak of the plague. It was confirmed in a dead wild boar found in the Alzey-Worms district.
