Tönnies suspends pig slaughter due to ASF
The company initially claimed that the delivered pigs were not infected with the virus, but tests conducted by the Friedrich Loeffler Institute showed that 11 of the 159 pigs that arrived at the plant were infected with the virus.
Local veterinary services ordered the slaughter and disposal of all animals present at the plant. The slaughterhouse also undergoes a disinfection procedure. It is not yet known when production will resume, but the restricted area around the plant has not been designated.
