Applications for the Good Start benefit have been accepted since July 1, but not for everyone

Od 1 lipca trwa nabór wniosków o świadczenie Dobry Start, ale nie dla wszystkich

Parents of students applying to secondary schools have not yet been able to submit an application for the Good Start benefit because one of the information that must be provided is the educational institution the child attends.

Recruitment results for secondary schools

The results of the eighth-grade exam were announced nationwide on July 3, and then students still had time to change their choices and modify their list of preferences. They learned the recruitment results between July 11 and 19, depending on the voivodeship, and then they had a few days to confirm their will to be admitted to the school, i.e., submit documents to the school they got into.

Schools announced the official lists of accepted and rejected candidates on July 16-25 (the earliest the students of the Małopolskie and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships found out on July 16, and the latest, i.e. July 25, of the Masovian and Świętokrzyskie Voivodeships).

Therefore, parents of children admitted to school and not planning to change the institution can now apply for the Good Start benefit. However, there are problems for those who have not qualified for any branch or are planning to cancel. They must wait until their child is admitted to school to submit the application. However, the deadline for accepting applications is long – they can be submitted until November 30, i.e. for two more months of the new school year.

Who is entitled to the Good Start benefit?

We remind you: the Good Start benefit is due once a year for a child studying at school until he or she turns 20. A disabled child studying at school is entitled to the benefit until the child turns 24. The benefit is not available to children studying in the so-called kindergarten or students.

The benefit is paid as a one-off amount of PLN 300 (repeatable every year for four years), and families will receive it regardless of their income, which by default should be allocated to textbooks, school supplies and other education-related expenses.

This benefit is exempt from tax and is not subject to enforcement, which means it cannot be seized by a bailiff.

Who can apply for the Good Start benefit?

The application may be submitted by the mother, father, legal guardian of the child or the child's actual guardian (the person actually caring for the child who has applied to the guardianship court for the adoption of the child).

"If, in accordance with a court decision, the child is under the care of alternating parents, divorced, separated or separated, for comparable and repeated periods – each of them may submit an application and receive half of the amount of the good start benefit" – informs MRPiPS.

Where and how to apply for the Good Start benefit?

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, applications for the Good Start benefit can be submitted to ZUS only electronically, and the payment of the granted benefit takes place only in a non-cash form, to a designated bank account.

Applications can be submitted via:

  • PUE ZUS portal or mZUS mobile application;
  • Emp@tia information and service portal;
  • electronic banking.

Where do farmers apply for Good Start?

The Social Insurance Institution is responsible for accepting applications for the Good Start benefit, examining them, and granting and paying this benefit, so farmers insured with KRUS cannot use the PUE ZUS portal or the mZUS mobile application, but they can submit applications for the Dobry Start benefit in two other ways: via electronic banking or on the Emp@tia portal.
