The city of Poznań is planning to build a new station. The deputy mayor of Poznań, Natalia Weremczuk, said in a radio program that the idea is not only to demolish the old and new Poznań Główny Railway Station, but also the Avenida Poznań shopping center. As the president claimed, the shopping center may completely disappear, leaving only the parking lot. A new station would be built in this place, moved towards the Poznań fair.
The owner of Avenida – ECE Projektmanagement Polska – reacted to these revelations. "In connection with the statement of the Vice-President of the City of Poznań, Natalia Weremczuk, on June 26, 2024 on Radio Poznań, we declare that there are no plans or concepts regarding the liquidation of the Avenida Poznań Shopping Center. We are closely following the statements of representatives of the Poznań city authorities regarding the reconstruction of the Poznań Główny Railway Station and We constantly declare our willingness to participate in consultations and talks on proposals for its development.
However, it turns out that any changes are only possible in 2030, i.e. in 6 years.
The city tried to obtain financing for the construction of a new station. In 2023, it submitted an application to include the reconstruction of the Poznań Główny station in the National Railway Program until 2030 (with a perspective until 2032). It was already known then that the management of the Poznań station would be taken over by PKP PLK.
