Another ASF outbreak in the Gniezno district. We are facing another weeks of herd lockdown

Kolejne ognisko ASF w powiecie gnieźnieńskim. Czekają nas kolejne tygodnie blokady stada

Outbreak No. 2024/23 was confirmed in the town of Ujazd in the Kiszkowo commune (Gniezno poviat). This is exactly the same town where two previous ASF outbreaks were confirmed and where the preventive slaughter of 13 herds of pigs was originally supposed to take place. The activities of veterinary services were suspended after animals were culled from four farms. As it turns out, this decision may have been premature, as postponing the slaughter has only been detrimental to local farmers so far. The period of herd blockade is being extended, which as of today will last at least until the end of August in the protection zone and until mid-August in the danger zone.

It didn't take long for the breeders to react. We are already hearing about farmers who are afraid to operate in the vicinity of ASF for longer and decide to suspend or completely end pig production. This will only deepen the collapse of the domestic pig production sector.
