Based on production dynamics and weather forecasts, the Russian Agricultural Market assumed that in 2024, Russians on average will eat 4 kg of this product, which is equivalent to 50 cups, which is almost 400 g, or 5 cups more than a year earlier. The survey showed that ice cream is the favorite food of Russians to beat the heat. This option scored 25.3%, ahead of okroshka (23%) and chilled berries and fruits (13.4%) in the top three.
At the same time, every third Russian prefers ice cream (32.7%), every fifth (21.4%) prefers popsicle. More than 16% of votes allowed fruit ice to take third place, with ice cream in a cup very close with 13.6%. Fifth place went to sherbet, which was chosen by every tenth respondent, and another 5.8% of respondents like gelato (a hand-made dessert, a type of ice cream) most of all.
In 2023, Russian companies produced 515 thousand tons of ice cream, which is 11% more than a year earlier. Consumption amounted to 517.3 thousand tons.
“Last year we predicted that in 2025, Russians will eat – in convenience servings – 45 cups of ice cream, or 3.6 kg per person per year. At the end of 2023, we see that the figure has reached 44 cups, or 3.53 kg per person. That is, consumption is growing at an accelerated pace,” said Andrey Dalnov, chief industry analyst at Rosselkhozbank .
If the analysts’ forecast comes true, then average per capita consumption at the end of the year will increase by 13%, that is, by almost 400 g compared to 2023. Conventionally, this is plus 5 glasses.
