Allegro has been creating the Polish e-commerce market since 1999, i.e. almost from the beginning of its existence. As the platform developed, online sales boomed, which in turn fueled the logistics, payment and marketing industries. Today, every third Pole is an active buyer on Allegro, just like every second Polish company, and Allegro itself is not only one of the strongest Polish brands, but has also become one of the largest players on the European e-commerce market.

A USB camera was offered at the first auction on Allegro. A quarter of a century later, there are half a billion offers on the platform and Allegro is gradually expanding its economic influence to other countries in the region.

Over a billion products sold

In 2023 alone, approximately 1.15 billion products were sold on the platform and this is just one of the indicators mentioned in the Report illustrating the scale of Allegro's operations in Poland. The platform's impact on the Polish economy goes far beyond the group itself and takes into account the activities of almost 150,000 sellers on the platform generated thanks to Allegro, as well as the development of its logistics and courier partners.

At the end of 2023, Allegro's overall impact on the Polish economy was estimated at over PLN 26 billion of gross value added (GVA), i.e. approximately 1% of the total GVA generated in Poland and less than 1% of the total GDP. This amount would finance the education of all primary school students in Poland. The scale of Allegro's operations enables the employment of approximately 140,000 employees in various companies in the country, and thanks to the platform, nearly PLN 8 billion in wages is generated in Poland.

Allegro has been the driving force behind the Polish e-commerce market since its founding twenty-five years ago. Currently, almost one percent of Poland's GDP is generated thanks to our platform. We are constantly working to make shopping and selling as easy as possible. Hundreds of millions of products, fantastic prices (usually the most competitive on the market) and convenient delivery encourage customers to use our services again and again – and these numerous customers attract more and more sellers to list their products with us. The loyalty of customers and sellers led to the Impact Report calling us the most popular platform in Poland – said Roy Perticucci, president of Allegro.

Allegro is the driving force behind e-commerce

At the end of last year, Allegro attracted the interest of almost 20 million active buyers in the region, including 14.6 million on its home Polish market. Such a database, along with the increasingly broader logistics offer available on Allegro, is a real treat for sellers who, in 2023 alone, generated revenues of over PLN 54.7 billion thanks to sales on Allegro. Programs and offers created by Allegro, such as Allegro Smart!, Allegro Pay, and Lowest Price Guarantee, are already well established among Polish consumers, who only thanks to the Smart! program. They have already saved a total of over PLN 8.6 billion on shipping costs. At the same time, the platform continues to expand its logistics capabilities, supporting the development of the industry and expanding its own offer of One Box parcel machines, courier services and the One Fulfillment offer. Thanks to this, according to the Report, approximately 9 out of 10 orders are completed within 1-2 days, and almost 45% of shipments reach buyers the next day.

The positive impact of Allegro on the Polish economy should be considered much more broadly than just in terms of employment, remuneration paid or added value generated. Allegro is a unique entity on an international scale – a marketplace platform created in Europe and driving the development of the entire e-commerce market here. The economic benefits related to the functioning of the platform on the Polish market described in the report show how important a role Allegro plays in the national economy and the potential of this model, which the platform is currently expanding to other countries in the region. The company's core operations are located in Poland, but Allegro is already the largest e-commerce team in this part of Europe. Moreover, the development of Allegro outside Poland stimulates the international expansion of local entrepreneurs – says Andrzej Musiał, director in the Digital Transformation Team in the Consulting Department at KPMG in Poland.
