Aldi to create 1,600 jobs as store expansion continues in 2025

Aldi is set to create 1,600 jobs this year as it continues its store expansion across the UK.

The German discounter is targeting around 30 new store openings in 2025 as part of a £650m investment in its supermarket network.

It is hiring for store managers, assistant store managers, deputy store managers, store assistants and cleaners.

Aldi’s planned opening for the comings weeks include March in Cambridgeshire, Moston in Greater Manchester and Lytham in Lancashire.

The discounter’s UK HR director Kelly Stokes said: “Our store colleagues are the best in the business and, as we continue to expand our store network and provide more customers with access to Aldi’s high-quality, affordable products, we’re going to need to grow those store teams with even more amazing people.

“We are committed to creating rewarding careers and offering market-leading pay for all our store colleagues. This year promises to be an exciting year as we bring even more Aldi stores to local communities across Britain.”

Aldi’s hiring spree comes as Sainsbury’s and Tesco revealed last month it was collectively axing thousands of jobs as they looked to cut costs.

Sainsbury’s is cutting 3,000 jobs to simplify its business as it closes its remaining cafés, hot food counters, patisserie, and pizza counters, and reduces senior management roles by an estimated 20%.

While Tesco is slashing 400 jobs from its workforce in head office as well as at its Tesco Mobile phone shops and in-store bakeries.
