Over the past 10 years, alcohol sales in Russia have fallen by 21.5% per person, to 6.5 liters of ethanol, Izvestia writes, citing a state report by Rospotrebnadzor, which published data on sales for 2023 compared to 2014. Sales of strong drinks (vodka and cognac) have seriously declined.

The department noted that this result does not reach the target, which is recorded in the national project "Demography": 6.08 liters of ethanol per person by 2023. But by 2020, the country was in 13th place in the world ranking, although eight years earlier it was in fourth place.
Over the past ten years, sales of cognac (-20.7%) and vodka, as well as liquor (-19.5%), have fallen in the Russian Federation, to 0.95 liters of alcohol per person and 6.1 liters, respectively. This corresponds to the general direction of the anti-alcohol policy of the Russian Federation – to shift demand from strong drinks to weaker ones.
In addition, during this time, the country adopted major restrictive measures on the alcohol market. Among the most effective was the gradual launch of the state control system EGAIS , which by 2014 had already "whitewashed" sales of alcohol in legal retail. Also playing a significant role were the repeated increases in excise taxes on all types of alcohol, restrictions on alcohol sales in kiosks, bans on drinking in public places, the introduction of criminal liability for selling to minors, as well as time frames for the sale of alcohol.
