airBaltic will purchase electric aircraft

airBaltic закупит электрические самолеты

airBaltic Training, a division of the Latvian airline airBaltic, has signed a contract with Diamond Aircraft for the purchase of three all-electric eDA40 and two DA42-VI aircraft. Thus, the airBaltic Pilot Academy fleet will increase to 15 aircraft. The transaction amount was not disclosed. The eDA40, which will be the first EASA/FAA certified electric aircraft in its category, marks a significant step towards zero-emission flight training, the airline said. It uses advanced electric motors with over 94% efficiency and dual controllers for improved reliability and safety. The aircraft's all-electric design ensures zero emissions and low noise levels. The eDA40 is equipped with a dual-string battery system and a fast charging system that can charge the aircraft in 20-30 minutes, reducing downtime and increasing training efficiency. “We have decided to continue the successful cooperation with our long-term partner, Diamond Aircraft, by agreeing to purchase five more aircraft. They will be gradually delivered until 2030,” said airBaltic Director of Operations Pauls Tsalitis. The airBaltic Pilot Academy trains 136 students. Most of them are from the Baltic countries, but other EU countries are also represented, including Denmark, Germany, France, Finland, Spain, Italy and others.
