airBaltic to lease 21 aircraft to Lufthansa for three years

airBaltic сдаст 21 самолет в аренду Lufthansa на три года

Latvian airline airBaltic is expanding its cooperation with Lufthansa Group for the next three years by leasing its aircraft under a wetlease agreement, the airline said in a statement. The agreement will enter into force in the summer season of 2025 and will see airBaltic operating flights on behalf of Lufthansa Group. airBaltic President and CEO Martin Gauss indicated that aircraft leasing has become an important development strategy for the company in recent years. The agreement provides for a three-year cooperation, during which up to 21 airBaltic A220-300 aircraft will operate flights on behalf of Lufthansa Group across its route network. airBaltic currently has 48 Airbus A220-300 aircraft in its fleet. Asked by Delfi Bizness whether airBaltic will have to lease aircraft with crews from airlines such as XFly, Carpatair, Danish Air Transport, Cyprus Airways in the next three years to operate its flights, airBaltic spokesman Augusts Zilberts said: "We cannot provide specific information about this at the moment, as plans for so-called ACMI-in or additional aircraft are assessed before each new season and adjusted accordingly. It should be recalled that airBaltic plans to increase its fleet to 100 aircraft by 2030, as a result of which the ratio of leased and existing aircraft in the airBaltic network will gradually equalize." Deutsche Lufthansa AG was reportedly considering acquiring a stake in AirBaltic Corp. ahead of the Latvian national airline's planned initial public offering (IPO), Bloomberg reported. Lufthansa, like airBaltic, declined to comment on the matter.
