Agrovoltaics, also called agrophotovoltaics, is not a new topic not only in the world, but also throughout Europe. Unfortunately, we do not yet have a definition of agrovoltaics in Polish law.
What's worse, agrivoltaics is confused with renewable energy investments carried out in rural areas.
There is more and more information in the media that photovoltaic panels are being installed on farms, on poultry houses or farm buildings. These are not investments in agrovoltaics – emphasizes Łukasz Oborski, president of the management board, Polish Agrovoltaics Association.
This is all due to the lack of a clear and simple definition, which is used by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, emphasizing that many agrovoltaic investments are implemented only because they are built on agricultural land.

Agoravoltaics is developing in Europe, but in Poland it is treated as a "Trojan horse"
In France, Germany and Italy, photovoltaic farms are being built, but in Poland we have stopped at the stage of defining them and have been doing so for several years.
Unfortunately, we are still at the stage of defining and specifying agrovoltaics in Poland, and there is information that agrovoltaics is a kind of RES Trojan horse to enter better-class agricultural land with photovoltaic installations and bypass current regulations and the Act on shaping the agricultural system, but not at all. this is not the case – emphasizes Łukasz Oborski, president of the management board, Polish Agrovoltaics Association. – Agrovoltaics is to serve farmers, breeders and growers. Agrovoltaics is intended to be an activity accompanying agricultural production, i.e. as an addition to what farmers do every day. This is about the bilateral use of land on which agricultural or animal production is to be carried out at all times.

Tauron has started inspections of home photovoltaics and energy storage facilities
As Łukasz Oborski, president of the board, Polish Agrovoltaics Association, emphasizes, we are at a point where we want to define, together with government representatives, what agrovoltaics is and how it should function in Poland.
We absolutely do not want, in any respect, for agrovoltaics to become a form or a way for the renewable energy industry to bypass applicable laws and regulations – said Łukasz Oborski, president of the management board, Polish Agrovoltaics Association. – We want to make it clear to farmers and those in power that agrovoltaics is to be an added value to their main activity, i.e. agricultural or animal production. Agrovoltaics is intended to be a way to diversify and provide financial security for running agricultural activities. As we know, prices of agricultural products are unpredictable and variable, and production costs are constantly increasing.
We do not want to enter fertile land and reduce agricultural production
We do not want to enter land of classes I, II and III, minimizing the volume of agricultural production or limiting the availability of fertile agricultural land. Agrowaltaika is to be an accompanying activity that preserves the right to benefits and subsidies that farmers are entitled to. We do not want to change this reality, we want to use the land in two possible ways that will maximize farmers' profits – summarizes Łukasz Oborski, president of the management board, Polish Agrovoltaics Association.
Agricultural production leaves a carbon footprint. Thanks to agrovoltaics, farmers will become even more competitive on the European market, because they will not only reduce the carbon footprint and costs of agricultural production, but will also improve its quality.
