- This is the second attempt at a tender for a grain terminal in the Port of Gdynia. Last year's winner of the tender did not receive permission for a lease from the Ministry of Infrastructure.
- Three companies and two consortiums are currently competing for the terminal. The deadline for submitting final offers is September 17.
- During the procedure, the weighting of discretionary criteria was changed. The board explains this by the desire to choose the best offer. There are opinions from the market about "playing poker with open cards".
- The Port of Gdynia is the main grain port in Poland. In the first half of 2024, its terminals transhipped 3.3 million tons of grain out of 6 million tons transhipped by all Polish ports.
The tender for a grain terminal in the Port of Gdynia is one of the hottest topics in the Polish maritime economy. On November 8, 2023, the then Port of Gdynia Authority announced that the tender had been won by a consortium: Szczecin Bulk Terminal, Tapini, Ribera, associated with the global grain trade giant, Vittera. A preliminary lease agreement for the terminal was concluded until 2053, and the lessee offered a minimum annual transshipment of 2 million tons.
Farmers protested against this, arguing that Vittera had a dominant position on the Polish market, and the tender result strengthened it. Politicians came to the farmers' aid, and all in all, the winning consortium did not receive the legally required consent of the Ministry of Infrastructure for the lease. This was justified by state security reasons of a classified nature.
