At present, bioacquiring is being developed in parallel by Sberbank and the National Payment Card System (NSPK). The bank has installed 750 thousand payment devices that read biometrics, but by the end of this year their number may reach at least 1 million terminals. In December, the organization plans to launch interbank bioacquiring, when clients of other credit organizations will be able to pay using biometrics in Sber terminals.
"Currently, only a Sberbank client can pay with biometrics at a Sberbank terminal. We are striving to create a service in which a citizen of our country can pay for purchases with biometrics regardless of which bank he is a client of, and we will implement this opportunity by the end of the year. In parallel, NSPK is preparing to do the same and store a database of card links with biometrics. This is a phase that we will go through together. As a result, we will receive a single target solution for all banks in 2025," Yevseyev noted.
Ten issuing banks are participating in the pilot project, two of which are also acquirers: Alfa-Bank, T-Bank, PSB, Raiffeisenbank, Sovcombank, Russian Standard, Ak Bars and MTS-Bank. It is assumed that a single infrastructure can make biometric payments more convenient and thus stimulate the transition to this payment method.
"Any solution in the field of bioacquiring, in accordance with the law, can only be implemented on the infrastructure of the Unified Biometric System. This is a necessary condition to ensure equal access to biometric services for clients of any bank," the CBT representative said.
