LUCA enters Poland

Poland is the first foreign market where the chain debuts. LUCA's offer on the Polish market will include most of the products currently available on the Romanian market. The brand is based on the curiosity of young people, their openness to new things and the willingness to try new flavors, especially since some products, such as Merdenea LUCA or LUCA Traditional, two bestsellers on the Romanian market, are completely unknown to Poles.

The first bakery under the LUCA brand in Poland will be opened on May 21, 2024 in Warsaw at ul. Ludwika Waryńskiego 3A in the Polna Corner building, at the exit of the Politechnika metro station.

LUCA announces that it plans to open 8-10 more bakeries by the end of this year – both in the center of Warsaw and in other cities. Bakeries will be located directly on the street or in shopping centers.

The choice of location is justified by the large number of office buildings in the area and the proximity of the university campus. By design, LUCA bakeries are present in places with high pedestrian traffic, on the ground floor of residential, office and commercial buildings, in the vicinity of university campuses and in high-density residential areas.

LUCA focuses on grab&go customers

The chain's target group are grab & go customers who come to LUCA for a quick snack on the way to work or university, during a lunch break or on the way back home when they want to buy something to take away. The offer is based on fresh, baked products on site – from pretzels with sunflower seeds or poppy seeds, through bagels, strudels, to pizza, sandwiches and other bakery products. In 2023, LUCA launched its own brand of craft coffee, ZMEU®, from independent plantations in South America.

– Our customers are usually in a hurry and are looking for a product that they can easily eat while walking or driving. The entire development strategy is focused on the real needs of customers, regardless of whether we are talking about products, services or purchasing experience – says Piotr Wilczyński, financial director of LUCA.

What do we know about LUCA

The area of the bakery under the LUCA brand ranges between 60 and 300 sq m.

Over 14 years, the company created 2,700 jobs. In 2023, LUCA's revenue amounted to over EUR 100 million, which means an increase of 42% y/y. Last year, 18 new bakeries were opened in Romania, and plans for 2024 include maintaining growth both on the Romanian market, where LUCA plans to open another 20 locations, as well as internationally.

The Polish market is mature and, from the point of view of consumer habits, similar to the Romanian market. Polish customers have the potential to appreciate the mission of LUCA, which offers customers very good quality products – adds Piotr Wilczyński.
