Forecasts for the weaners market
Jakub Dorożyński, sales specialist from PH Konrad, reports a slight revival on the weaners market.
– The Polish weaner market is seeing a revival. The prices of free-market weaner piglets in Denmark are also changing. Despite the lack of changes in the quotations on the Danish weaner exchange, the prices of free-market animals are rising. This is due to the fact that farmers have just finished their harvest and are planning their introductions so as to sell their fattened pigs before Christmas. As a result, we currently feel a higher demand for weaner piglets – says Dorożyński.
– There is a growing shortage of livestock on the fattening pig market, which is why since last week plants in Poland have been adding 10-15 groszy to the price of a fattening pig. This week, this demand is still felt, so fattening pigs are also getting slightly more expensive – he adds.

Current prices for domestic piglets (26.08.2024)?
In the case of domestic piglets, all surveyed sales outlets decided to maintain last week’s prices.
According to the results of our weekly survey, the prices for domestically produced piglets weighing 20 kg currently average PLN 318/piece net, i.e. unchanged from last week. The prices of piglets in this weight range from PLN 300 to PLN 340/piece net.
In turn, domestic piglets weighing 30 kg cost on average PLN 379/piece net. Their prices range from PLN 340 to PLN 440/piece net.

How much do imported piglets cost (26/08/2024)?
In the case of imported piglets, the vast majority of surveyed sales outlets decided to maintain prices. There were also sporadic price increases (from 5 to 10 PLN/piece) and reductions (from 8 to 30 PLN/piece).
Piglets imported from Denmark are currently valued at an average of PLN 387/piece net, which is PLN 1/piece net more than last week. Their prices range from PLN 290 to PLN 445/piece net. The prices given are for piglets weighing 30 kg.
