The beer producer will produce low-emission fertilizers
Agriculture faces challenges related to the sustainable use of natural resources and minimizing the negative impact on the environment. The new HiProMine plant, which will produce not only alternative protein but also organic insect fertilizer on a European scale, is entering the market as a powerful player.
– Organic fertilizer, a product of food processing by insects, contains a wealth of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, microelements, organic substances and chitin – says Dr. Sylwia Kaczmarek, head of research and development of fertilizers at HiProMine. – It is a natural source of soil fertilization, which not only increases its fertility, but also improves its structure, water retention capacity and microbiological activity. Thanks to this, crops using organic fertilizer can achieve better yields and be more resistant to stress conditions, he adds.
Research on the properties of organic insect fertilizer is conducted by HiProMine in cooperation with other research centers. The University of Life Sciences in Poznań has proven that frass improves the yield of fresh matter and the physiological condition of plants, both with optimal irrigation and in the event of drought, which can be a saving grace for many European regions. This is of great importance in view of climate change, which is becoming a nuisance for many crops. What is extremely important, fertilizer with chitin has biostimulating properties, so it can reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests, and is well decomposed by soil microorganisms.
– One of the key advantages of organic fertilizer of insect origin is its role in plant nutrition and improving soil fertility. The use of insect fertilizer in agricultural practice not only benefits agricultural production, but also supports the goals of sustainable development and environmental protection. It minimizes the negative effects of the use of artificial chemical fertilizers, such as soil and groundwater pollution, and helps to promote biodiversification. We have certificates allowing commercial trade in fertilizer and the possibility of using it in organic crops – comments Sylwia Kaczmarek.
The new factory in Karkoszów (Lubusz Voivodeship/Poland) will bring not only alternative protein as a feed ingredient for animal feed, but also innovative fertilizers to the market. Organic fertilizer based on insect frass is perfect for berry and vegetable plantations, flower crops, fruit crops and field crops. This is a real treat for owners of organic farms, because the quantities of the product that may soon hit the market are huge. Organic fertilizer comes in two forms: loose and granulated.
