On Tuesday, July 23, the government led by Kristen Michal (Reform Party) took office and, in order to increase government revenues, intends to increase several taxes and, among other things, change the basic principles of taxation in Estonia.

The main proponents of the tax hike were hard to find on Tuesday. The only one who answered the call was Social Democratic leader Lauri Läänemets, who will continue to serve as interior minister. He noted that details of tax changes should be clarified with the Ministry of Finance.
