The District Court of Central Finland found British citizen William Anthony guilty of casino fraud and sentenced him to two and a half years in prison, writes the news portal of the Finnish national broadcaster Yle.
He hacked into the computer systems of two international online casinos, taking advantage of a bug in the system.
The damage to the casino amounted to about 835 thousand euros. To date, the Finnish state has already confiscated this amount, as well as nine thousand euros in cash and one thousand gold coins that were in the possession of the convicted person.
The prosecution had sought a prison sentence of more than three years for him, but the court decided to impose a more lenient sentence.
The decision is not yet final and may be appealed.
