Mondelēz International, the manufacturer of Milka chocolate, Oreo and Delicje cookies, 7Days croissants and Prince Polo wafers, is again investing in renewable energy produced by its own photovoltaic installations. In line with its global vision to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050, Mondelez has made strategic decisions that will help achieve its goal.
Mondelēz chocolate factories powered by renewable energy
The project to build local photovoltaic installations in Poland assumes the construction of on-site installations with a total capacity of approximately 3 megawatts. The first of the three investments – the installation in Skarbimierz (Opole Voivodeship) – is already operational and producing energy. Another investment by Mondelēz International in renewable energy sources is a photovoltaic farm worth PLN 4.7 million, which was built on the company's land, with an area of 1 hectare, right next to the chocolate factory in Bielany Wrocławskie. The third installation of this type in Poland is to be built at the factory in Jankowice near Poznań. Its launch is scheduled for early 2025.
The energy systems of photovoltaic panels in the Lower Silesian chocolate factory have a total power of approximately 999 KWp. Thousands of photovoltaic panels will generate renewable energy for the plant's own use in Bielany Wrocławskie.
Mondelēz International installs heat pumps in a Polish plant
Another important project for Mondelēz International will be implemented in the second half of 2024 and will contribute to reducing gas consumption by diversifying heat sources. It includes the installation of a modern heat pump at the Skarbimierz plant, which will obtain energy from waste heat from chilled water units.
– New photovoltaic installations and heat pumps are proof that we are taking specific actions to reduce CO2 emissions, and our production plants play a key role in this process – says Roman Sitko, President of the Management Board of Mondelez Polska Production. – I am convinced that large corporations can contribute to creating a better, more sustainable future that will have a positive impact on both people and the environment – he adds.
– I believe that the company's success is not only about good business results and strong brands that consumers love. It is also responsibility for our surroundings and a commitment to local communities, our business partners and the environment, which we take extremely seriously. Therefore, sustainable development is a key pillar of our business. I am extremely proud of the progress in achieving our ESG goals and I am glad that Poland plays a significant role in this, emphasizes Robert Sas, managing director of Mondelēz International in Poland and the Baltic countries.
