A 55-year-old Serbian citizen who was detained by the police faces a penalty of up to three years in prison and a driving ban. An intoxicated man driving a truck drove into a building and rammed the property's fence, then fled the scene.
The incident took place in Nowe Miasteczko, Nowa Sól district. At night, the truck rammed the fence of the property and hit a residential and commercial building. The owners didn't have time to react because the driver drove away as if nothing had happened. The injured called the police. The police car gave chase and soon they noticed a tractor-trailer on the road with a driver repairing a damaged tire.
"The law enforcement officers immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. A sobriety test showed that the driver had over the legal limit of alcohol in his body." – we read in the police report. The man was detained and his blood was taken for further tests. Then the perpetrator was charged. The 55-year-old pleaded guilty. The penalty is up to three years in prison, a heavy fine and a lifetime driving ban. He will also not avoid liability for the damage committed.
