Martes Sport aims for 400 stores
The company has just filed its 2023 financial report. Martes Sport's financial year, which started on January 1, 2023 and ended on December 31, 2023, ended with a net profit of PLN 86,542,061 with sales and related revenues of PLN 1,338,186,639.
The previous financial year ended with a net profit of PLN 83,377,049.
At the end of 2023, the company had 363 operating large-format stores and plans to open 22 stores.
The Management Board of Martes Sport does not see any threats to the continuation of the company's operations. It constantly monitors information on the national and global economic situation.
The company's assumptions for 2024 are:
– the company achieved a turnover of PLN 1.6 billion,
– achieving EBITDA of PLN 80 million.
– At the moment, the implementation of the assumptions does not seem to be seriously threatened. A factor that is disturbing and possibly destabilizing the markets is the war in Ukraine. It is difficult to predict what direction the future actions of the parties to the conflict will take, but it nevertheless poses a threat to the economy. Any escalation of the conflict will result in difficulties in access to raw materials, production, disruption of supply chains (especially from Russia), as well as currency fluctuations, weakening of the Polish zloty and, finally, an increase in inflation and interest rate increases. Due to the lack of real impact on the above-mentioned threats, securing the supply of goods and maximizing them was considered a priority to ensure stocking of the network in the long run; this strategy has been implemented for two years. The accumulated inventory covers annual sales – comments the company's management in the report.
Martes Sport in a dispute with the Head of the Customs and Tax Office
The company is in dispute with the Head of the Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Katowice. The office questioned the tax settlements for 2015-2017. The proceedings for 2015 and 2016 ended successfully for the company, and the ongoing proceedings relating only to 2017, in the event of a negative result, may result in a tax liability in the amount of approximately PLN 5 million. The Management Board does not agree with the allegations that these settlements are unreliable and, in accordance with the recommendations of the advisors and attorneys, is appealing the decision.
Minor staff reduction
There was a reduction in employment during the financial year. At the end of the financial year, the company employed 2,500 people. In the previous period, the company employed 2,546 people.
