During the 30th Regional Animal Exhibition in Szepietowo, animals from the Burzyński farm stood out. As Paweł Burzyński, who has been participating in exhibitions for four years, emphasized in an interview with our editorial office, the number of successes increases with growing experience. Secrets of preparing animals for an exhibition
Paweł Burzyński started his adventure with exhibitions at the Podlasie School of Young Breeders.
– There I learned the secrets of preparing animals for exhibitions, I met many interesting people and it continues to this day – he said. – Preparing animals for an exhibition requires a lot of work and time. We start about 2-2.5 months before the exhibition. First, we select the animals, then separate them from the rest of the herd, do the first shearing, first washing, start working on the line and continue working until the day of valuation – he added.
Our interlocutor emphasized that sometimes you have to wait for success.
– Exhibitions require a lot of hard work. However, you cannot be discouraged. My first successes appeared only at the third exhibition in which I participated. Now, in fourth place, it is even better than a year ago. I hope it continues like this. You have to learn from your own experiences, as well as look at others, observe what they do to be even better, breed the best possible cattle and produce the best milk, said Burzyński.
We focus on improving the conformation
Paweł Burzyński has been breeding on the farm for seven years. As he points out, the current key direction is to improve the habit.
– We strongly focus on improving the conformation, because we believe that conforming cows are long-lived animals. In addition, we pay great attention to milk dry matter and A2A2 casein, our interlocutor emphasized.
The Burzyńskis are also active in the field of embryotransfer.
– We buy embryos abroad and implement them in our heifers, and we also rinse our best cows and heifers. This allows us to maximize breeding progress on our farm, Burzyński noted.

Advantages of the Brown Swiss breed
Burzyński was one of the breeders who exhibited Brown Swiss cows during this course. As he revealed, the idea to breed this breed appeared during his studies and was related to the lecturer's suggestion that it was a good alternative to PHF.
– We chose this breed because it is similar in body type to Holstein-Friesians, and these cows are quite calm because they were selected for temperament. Another advantage is the very high content of dry matter in the milk, longevity and health. Due to these advantages, we decided that 10-15 percent herds will consist of cows of this breed. This share will not be increased. We plan to select and sell some of the females more intensively, Burzyński noted. – By more intensive selection I mean the emphasis on milk production, because these cows are less productive than HF cows, and also on the conformation – he added.
