The situation on the beer market in Poland. Kompania Piwowarska is the leader, Grupa Żywiec is in second place, and Carlsberg is in third place.
Carlsberg Polska states in its financial report that the volume of the beer category in 2023 decreased compared to the previous year (Nielsen data) while its value increased by approximately 8%. The increase in beer prices is the result of a 5% increase in excise tax effective from January 1, 2023 and persistently high inflation.
With decreasing volume, the segment structure of beers has changed. Sales volume is stable in the non-alcoholic beer segment (which is in line with the long-term consumer trend) and in the lager segment, while flavored alcoholic beers and beer specialties recorded a decline in volume.
Sales growth is visible in the discount channel (+0.5%), and in medium-format stores, sales are stable. The number of hypermarkets and small, non-affiliated grocery stores continues to decline. As a result, beer sales in these formats are declining.
Kompania Piwowarska remains the industry leader, Grupa Żywiec was in second place, and Grupa Carlsberg Polska was in third place.
