- There are currently 151 varieties entered in the National Register of Winter Wheat Varieties.
- Varieties from LOZ are particularly recommended for growing winter wheat in the Integrated Production system.
- The most frequently recommended varieties are: Venecja and Revolver (both recommended in 14 voivodeships).
Although the harvest has just ended, it is worth considering the choice of winter wheat varieties for sowing today. The choice is not easy, because in the case of winter wheat, there are over 150 varieties in the National Register of Varieties alone. If we add to this the varieties available from the EU CCA catalog, the number increases even more. How not to get lost in such a large list? How to make the right choice?

Which winter wheat varieties should you choose in 2024?
This is not an easy task, because the differences between varieties are large and it is also difficult to predict the vegetation conditions for the next season. For example, this year in the southern regions, very early earing varieties did not work, suffering from spring frosts. In other seasons, they showed their advantages, but not in this one, which turned out to be disastrous for this type of variety.

Therefore, when planning new crops, it is best to use a proven tactic, which is variety diversification, i.e. selecting at least several varieties from different groups for sowing.

It is also worth taking an interest not only in high-yielding varieties, but also in those that are genetically better predisposed to creating grain with improved quality parameters. With such varieties, it is generally easier to obtain grain for consumption, which has often been missing on the market in recent seasons.
Winter wheat varieties from LOZ recommended for IP
COBORU first recommends to the Integrated Production system the varieties included in the "Lists of varieties recommended for cultivation in the area of individual voivodeships", i.e. the so-called LOZ lists.
It should be noted that this is not a necessary condition. Varieties can also be selected from all varieties registered in the National Register, as well as from selected varieties available from the CCA catalog, which were tested in exploratory experiments in the natural and climatic conditions of our country and obtained favorable assessments of economic value, and were then accepted for post-registration research (PDO).
Taking into account the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the case of using a variety from the Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plants (CCA) in the IP, the plant producer should justify the choice of such a variety in accordance with the objectives of Integrated Plant Production.
LOZ – a large selection in wheat
This year's LOZ list includes 40 varieties of winter wheat. The most recommendations concern the following provinces: West Pomeranian (17 varieties), Silesian (16), Mazovian (14). The most frequently recommended varieties are: Venecja and Revolver (both recommended in 14 provinces). The next ones are Euforia (12) and Artist (11). Interestingly, the Artist variety was removed from the National Register of Varieties this year, which will probably result in this variety also being removed from the next lists of recommended varieties.
Below, following COBORU, we publish the Lists of Recommended Varieties (LOZ) for cultivation in the voivodeships for 2024 and for winter wheat.
