The Bank of Estonia continues to exchange Estonian kroons and cents for euros, despite the fact that the country joined the eurozone 13 years ago, ERR writes .
Estonia adopted the euro on 1 January 2011, but the Bank of Estonia still accepts kroons. In the second quarter of 2024, the central bank carried out 172 transactions to exchange kroons for euros.
Residents were paid 35,740 euros, which means that they brought approximately 559,209 Estonian kroons to the Bank of Estonia.
According to the central bank's estimates, Estonian residents still have kroons in their hands worth a total of 43.7 million euros.
“In recent years, interest in exchanging kroons for euros has remained low,” the Bank of Estonia states.
