Installation of a cogeneration power plant in Alytus has been completed. The value of the project is more than 13 million. euros.
As the communication agency "INK agency" reports, it is expected that the power plant will create new jobs, help ensure lower heating prices and increase Lithuania's energy independence.
"This technologically advanced cogeneration power plant is important not only for the city of Alytus, but also for the energy economy of the entire country, as it will not only reduce Lithuania's dependence on imported energy resources, but also stop capital outflow from Lithuania, create new jobs, reduce energy prices for residents and contribute to the objectives of the Circular Economy set by the European Commission", Vaida Lapinskienė, head of the Public Investment Department of the Innovation Agency, is quoted in the report.
"All the heat energy produced in the power plant will be supplied to the heat networks of the Alytus region, and the other part will be sold on the electricity exchange by connecting to the networks of UAB "Energijos skirstamo operatorius", the report states.
The majority of the power plant installation project was financed with the funds of the European Union structural funds.
The project was implemented by the company "Biovatas", which has been operating for more than a decade, the agency reports.
