€1.33 per litre of diesel: how a local petrol station chain is trying to capture a share of the market

1,33 евро за литр "дизеля": как местная сеть заправок пытается захватить часть рынка

The opening of a new Straujupīte petrol station in Riga caused a stir on social media. On the opening day, diesel fuel was available for 1.33 euros per litre, and 95-octane petrol was 1.41 euros – significantly cheaper than the market average. Videos of queues at the petrol station were shared on social media, and commentators argued over whether other petrol station chains would lower their prices. The new Straujupīte petrol station opened on August 23 on Daugavgrivas Street. "It cannot be called large in terms of area, but it is located in a strategically important place for us and is quite spacious. We can store 90 cubic metres of fuel there at a time," says SIA Straujupīte representative Oskars Zeiza. "Preparing this petrol station to serve customers was more about reconstruction and landscaping of the area, so we were able to complete the work in 45 days." The petrol station in Pardaugava is the company's seventh and the first in Riga.
